Prosecution and defense of domestic violence restraining orders normally implicates a number of other issues, such as child custody and visitation;  attorney fees; the inability to work due a restraining order; relinquishment of fire arms and other issues.

Normally these issues arise on an emergency basis, and require immediate action.  There is little time to research the law, or consider your options, whether your are seeking a restraining order, or have been served with one.  It is critical to know what facts are important to the court, and what facts will be considered as ‘fluff’ or irrelevant.

I have seen people not get restraining orders who should have gotten one, simply because they did not fill out the paperwork correctly.  I have also seen people have a restraining order issued against them, when they should not have, simply because they did not know how to oppose it with the right facts.  Or they have consented to it, without understanding all of the collateral consequences that would arise.
